SolarWorld Gran Turismo solar car starts the US leg of its round the world tour

The main sponsor is SolarWorld. “The SolarWorld GT is an ambassador for sustainable personal transportation, reminding us that the power to shift our driving habits away from dirty fossil fuels is within our grasp,” said Kevin Kilkelly, president of SolarWorld Americas in a statement.  “Clean energy from the sun is there for the taking – without depleting the Earth’s riches.”

SolarWorld collaborated with  Bochum University of Applied Sciences in Germany to built the vehicle. Solar powered race cars have been developed at Bochum University since 2002.

The students, employees, and professors of the faculty of mecatronics and mechanical engineering, as well as the faculty of electrical engineering and informatics, proudly present this prime example of energy efficiency which was built by the students themselves.
